Atlantis: Did it exist?
Atlantis is a legendary continent that many people believe sank into the Atlantic Ocean thousands of years ago (World Book Encyclopedia). Many arguments have occurred because of this "lost place" but, it seems like they are all for no good. The meaning of this is that none of the arguments made by people trying to prove or disprove Atlantis's existence are helping to get any closer to actually doing the action they are trying to do. If one side comes up with a hypothesis the other side condemns it and everyone forgets about it. Personally, the thought that Atlantis does not exist is in my head and it will remain until someone brings it out of the water. But, this author will still give you the facts to both sides of the story and let you decide for yourself what you believe about Atlantis. The story of Atlantis begins quite literally with two of Plato's dialogues, Timaeus and Critias. These accounts are the only known written records that refer specifically to a Lost Civilization called Atlantis (Keyes). One would think how could so many people believe in Atlantis if there is only written records from one man telling that it exists? Atlantis is said to be located near the strait of Gibraltar b
Cayce also said that the Great Pyramid in Egypt was built in 10,500 B.C. If true, this would tend to support the premise that it was built using Atlantean Technology, since there is no official history of Egypt predating 3,500 B.C. (Kasten). This is also a good argument for people who believe in Atlantis but they do need to find some proof to show that this is actually when the pyramid was built and show that the Atlanteans were actually there at the time. Some people do not put any thought into the existence of Atlantis they just make a rationalization and forget about everything else. This is what they tell themselves and others. Many people have dismissed Atlantis as glorified myths of volcanic eruptions in the island of Thira in 1450 B.C. The eruption may have destroyed that island and caused a small earthquake and tsunamis that ruined the civilization of Crete, but did not sink a continent (Atlantis: We will never know). This type of people must not be very enthusiastic about that topic or about any topic in general because they just read one thing and they are like oh yeah that's what happened definitely. They do not dig in to the research and find out as much as possible. That is most likely true and the marble head kind of makes you think it came from the European area. But like some of the archaeologists said it could have all just been a publicity stunt. One would think all the Bimini road site discoveries definitely show that there was a more developed civilization at the time. It might have been Atlantis or it might not have been. There are some other points of view that show that Atlantis might have existed at one time. In 1968, underwater roads off the coast of Bimini were discovered. Huge rectangular blocks under 15 feet of water appeared to have been placed intelligently to form a distinct road stretching for hundreds of feet, and ending in a sharp right angle turn (Kasten). This does kind of make you think that there was an intelligent form of life there, but how does that show that it was definitely the Atlanteans that made the structures? It does not tell you it was the Atlanteans but people arguing for the belief in Atlantis like to use that to show that Atlantis does in fact exist, but they have no proof to show the Atlanteans built it unless they find "Atlantis" carved in all the blocks or something. To wrap it up Atlantis could have definitely existed and it got buried under sheets of Earth in which no one could discover it. But, that is not likely in this case. One would think Atlantis is just a legend of a culture or a confusion of Plato. Although he is very smart he is a human being and he can make mistakes. In this case it is probable that it was his mistake and a pretty big one. At first, the thought was that Atlantis existed, but maybe it was just a childhood happy fairy
