For my English mock formal commentary I would like to demonstrate the contrast between two governments. One being the Canadian government and the other being the Oceanian Government from the novel 1984 by George Orwell. I'd like to start off by giving a brief description on each government, and then give 6 comparisons of the two of them and for my personal response I'd like to pick one government and explain why I favor them.

For many years there has been a government in the country of Canada and for many years it has always been a very diplomatic, kind, generous and proud government however it wasn't always this way. For years we followed other countries and for a long time it seems as if there was always someone looking over their shoulder. This is perfectly reasonable due to the ties that the Canadian government had with the British government. Even to this day we still have a representative from Britain that stays here in our country and does petty tasks like, approve our laws and make the occasional public appearance. Who is she? She's Adrian Clarkson and she's our Governor General. Canada has four major political parties and they are The Progressive

Which brings me to my second government. The Oceanian Government from the Novel 1984 by George Orwell.

Sixth, Big Brother has one everlasting government party that will continue to exist with the same image of Big Brother for 50, 60 or even a hundred years to come unless a revoulation occurs and the people regain power where as the Canadian government has 4 parties that will always be elected by the people to represent the country and will continue to do so until the end of time.

Now I'd like to tell all of you which government I'd favor and why.

Fifth, the Canadian Governement believes in capitalism, consumerism and the freedom to make as much money as you want where as "Big Brother" only paid you an extremely small salary for your work efforts.

Conservatives, The Liberals, The Canadian Alliance and last but not least The New Democratic Party. Unlike other countries, the Canadian government does not have a President but a Prime Minister who equally and naturally does the same thing, they run our country. More now than ever have I noticed a decline in Canadian Politics. It seems that we're not really interested in the issues at hand and I now can't help but stop and wonder, "What are the issues"? For many years we've had a long line of great Prime Ministers such as John MacDonald who was the very first, Pierre Elliot Trudeau and even perhaps Jean Creatian but now we have something called Stockwell Day which from what I can see has done nothing but diminished the reputation. All of our four major parties run in all of our provinces and from each province, a Premier is elected. You could think of it as a group of governments working collectively under one large government.

First, the Canadian government is diplomatic and believes that power is within the people where as Oceania is communist and tries to keep as much power as possible from entering to grasps of the people.

Third, the Canadian government has set out a strict set of guidelines to make sure that our environment as well as our health is well looked after where as Oceania really couldn
