I feel that Ben Franklin's American Dream is still a possibility today. The dream he portrayed is still a reality to many Americans. Although more and more obstacles arise every day, the opportunities that existed then, exist now.
Everyone's ancestors started out in the same position. Many were just poor merchants in England working under the king's supervision. Most of them had the same idea of escaping to the "Land of Opportunity", which is America, so they could better themselves.
The first thing mentioned in Franklin's autobiography is mobility. I feel that Franklin was correct in thinking that the first process in building a solid foundation for a better life, is to take on a journey. Virtue is the next method reached in the American Dream. The puritans believed that virtue is brought to a person who lived rightly and thought rightly, but Franklin believes it is because of good morals and their willingness to try, as do I. If a person has good morals and is willing to try than they are more apt to succeed in life. Which leads into Franklin's next idea for the American Dream, success. I agree with Franklin that success comes from a good education, a journey, and virtues. Franklin also thinks that industry is just as important as the rest, but I would have to disagree with that simply because today a person has to have an education to get very far in life.
