2. The good life is one inspired by love and guided by knowledge

1. a) Contemplated love according to Russell is identified as one part of an emotional pole. Russell addresses that in order to attain the good life, one must be inspired by love and knowledge. Thus, contemplation can be expressed as keeping the idea that is brought into the mind for some time actually in view. On the other hand, Russell claims that there's a second emotional pole of love, and that is benevolence. Thus, underlying the disposition to do good, good will, charitableness, love of mankind, accompanied with a desire to elevate their happiness.

1. b) The example, which substantiates the point made in the second paragraph, exemplifies that role of love and knowledge. That one needs love and knowledge in order to sustain the good life. In other words, one can learn a certain subject such as accounting and gain his knowledge by studying, however remain lonely because he has no one to love or be loved. 7. a) Yes, I can agree with Russell's remarks. That all moral rules must be tested and examined whether they tend to realize the ends we desire. I defend my answer by stating that we as humans must identify the differences from right and wrong and see the positive and negative effects it provides us with. We might think that a certain moral rule might be a positive effect, yet may lead to negative conclusions, thus making us naive or unaware if the moral rule is either a good or bad thing from the past, present, or for the future.

5. I believe to some extent that all behavior springs from desire. I acknowledge this because one person can fluctuate depending on his/her own desires, desires that lead towards rewards or punishments. For example, one can desire to murder someone and get punished for his/hers viciousness actions, thus having his/her behaviors spring from his own desire. On the other hand, one can characterize and evil personality and shadowed life and can set a different behaviour aside from his/her desires. In this case, one could be the kind of person who usually never helps another individual. However, this same person in the case of life and death goes ahead and risks his/her life in order to save one other's. This characterizes that although this person did not have the desire to help others, he/she changed their behavior.
