Book of Job

What is the basic moral/ theological problem addressed in the Book of Job? How is it presented? How is the problem solved (if it is) for Job himself?

In the Book of Job we learn how bad things can happen to good people. And that when this happens we must continue to believe in God and yourself. Job is the main character in this story. Job is an extremely righteous human being who has been blessed with a huge family, many animals, and lots of land.

Satan tells God that the only reason Job is God's greatest servant is because Job has been so blessed. So God allows Satan to test Job. Satan does this by taking away all of Job's possessions and his children. Satan also takes away Job's health; a loathsome disease affects his body while sorrow oppresses his soul.


k many of his friends come to him and tell that the reason for his suffering is because he is a sinner and he is only getting what he deserves. His friends tell him to confess his sins to God and his suffering will end.

Job continues to believe in his own righteousness and continues to have trust in God, although he still does not understand why his suffering was brought upon him. He has no idea that Satan is behind all of his pain.

At this point Job has started to curse the day he is born and longs for death to bring an end to all of his suffering. Finally Job appeals to God himself asking that he be able to speak with god to find the reason behind all of his suffering. God appears to Job in a whirlwind.
