This book is about Deanna Findley* and her next door neighbor who is also her best friend, Michael McKinsey*. Deanna is a high school junior who doesn't care about her looks or if she is in the "in" crowd, but cares more about her family and friends and their welfare. Formerly know as Dee she is a happy go-lucky girl who is slim, has brown hair and loves to baby-sit her younger brother, Doug. Dee's importance in this book is that she helps Michael deal with his grandfather's illness and deals with her own family problems. Michael, Dee's next door neighbor and secret crush, is tall, dark complected, and a nice guy to hang out with. He is in the popular crowd in a way, but isn't stuck up. The other characters in this book are Dee's brother, Doug, a rambunctious, funny, caring, nine-year-old. This book containing also Alice, Dee's sister, a thirteen year-old just discovering boys and having a hobby of being a brat to her little brother. Also among other characters are Mr. and Mrs. Findley (Dee's parents), Mrs. McKinsey (Michael's mother), and Mr. Kolupa (Michael's grandfather).

Blue Moon is a book about a young girl who gets out for the summer and notices changes in her beloved graduating friend. The changes really aren't changes, but more like Michael trying to keep a secret from all of his fellow classmates and even his best friend Dee. Dee figures something is up when Michael misses the last day of school and the annual water fight to start the summer off. Dee confronts Michael at his graduation and he promises nothing is wrong, but Dee finds out that his grandfather has Altimizers and that he is trying to keep his father out of public so no one will figure out that his grandfather is sick. Michael is very distant from Dee and her family along with his other friends.
