Mack and the boys packed up to begin their road trip, destination: Carmel Valley. Mack knew around where their destination lie. As the trip commenced they became consumed in the chatter of how their money would be spent. Doc was to give them 5 cents for every frog they captured and returned to him. All the boys determined that the money was to be spent on a party for Doc, to thank him for being such a great guy. They chatted with excitement as their imaginations ran wild, thinking up extravagant party ideas. In the bed of the truck lied a 5-gallon-jug of whiskey; that Eddie had brought from the bar. As they drove, they began to take drinks, in hope of making the trip more enjoyable. Somewhere along the line Mack thought it would be a good idea to take a short cut; he thought he remembered from the last time he went to Caramel

It was like war; in which, a gang of drunken men trampled around in marshes bounding after slimy frogs. The frogs would slide right out of their hands, throwing them off balance, and causing them to fall face first into the marsh. The swampy mess splattered up in disarray as the men ran laughing. Finally perfecting the art of capturing the frogs, at least to the fullest of their abilities.

ring grew even louder. The men who lived there brought out the remainder of the alcohol they had, and everyone began to party. Mack and the boys drank and stuttered as they told the story of what they were on the trip for and what happened to the truck. They appeared to really get along with everyone. The following morning, as the boys began to pry themselves out of their awkward sleeping arrangements, Gay struck a deal with the men of the fraternity. Gay stated that if he fixed their truck as a favor, that they would return that favor by sending three of their men to transport them to Carmel Valley. The black men also offered to assist Mack and the Boys in the capture of these slimy green creatures. Gay got to work on the truck. After half-a-day's work Gay finished, and the truck was functioning better then ever. Cramming into the truck they all headed for Caramel Valley. The night drew nearer and they all sat talking, drinking, and waiting for the right time to imprison the frogs. After what seemed like forever the night finally came and the hunt began.

One man would stand holding a knapsack open, and the other would chase the frogs and throw them callously into the sack. Approaching the extremities of the night, the look of triumph over the enemy set in. The men won the war, capturing nearly 700 frogs. The men attempted to sleep, but the stories of the frogs and their victory flooded the night.
