Catcher in the Rye-most banned book and why

A detailed Summary of Catcher in the Rye-most banned book and why

"The Catcher in the Rye" is one of the most frequently banned books in America today for many reasons, including its language, sexual reference, Characters (their actions and descriptions), and Violence.

The language J.D. Salinger uses in "The Catcher in the Rye" is very offensive as well as racist and rude. In the book, Holden manages to put down women, Catholics and Gays, by only "being himself." This can be expressed very well in the first paragraph of the book:

"IF YOU REALLY want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth. In the first place, that stuff bores me, and in the second place, my parents would have about two hemorrhages apiece if I told anything pretty personal about them".

This paragraph alone shows that Holden has a

If the offensive language, insulting sexuality, corrupt characters, and unnecessary violence doesn't make you cringe at this overrated piece of literature, then at least don't influence our children by telling them they relate to Holden and the characters of J.D. Salinger.

Violence is made out to be a very large part in this book. The part that sticks out in most everybody's mind is the part where the pimp beats Holden silly because he doesn't pay fully for his prostitute, whom he only talked to the whole night. Another example of unnecessary violence is when Holden talks about punching out all the windows in his shed and then turning on the family car windows. If a teen audience is the main viewpoint of this book, violence should not be used as an answer for such stupid actions. If that's not enough, "The Catcher in the Rye" played a part in the assassination of John Lennon, a very brilliant man, who brought peace to America when it was needed.
