Along with the mentality of a 7 year old little boy who runs away because his mother had made him brush his teeth before bed this is clearly stated in the book McCandless states on many occasions his reasons for his trip and he clearly states that he didn't want to live by anybody's rules for example when McCandless was asked if he had a license for the gun he was carrying he replied "Hell no how I feed myself is none of the governments business. How can anyone who is emotionally stable go for this great amount of time with out have spoken a word to any member of his family. Any decent human regardless of the disagreements that you might have with your family members they are still exactly that your family members.
