Church Project
On Saturday September Twenty Second I attended a mass at Saint is located in the down area of Saint Mary's Pennsylvania. The church is connected to a convent with a local elementary school across the street. It stands to be the biggest and oldest church in Saint Mary's. Saint Mary's was the first Catholic Church established in the new found community. German settlers that established homes in the Saint Mary's area created the church. The German parishioners are the people responsible for establishing the church in 1852. But the town was very segregated between the Germans and the Irish. The Irish decided to establish there own Catholic Church, which is, called Sacred Heart Church. The church is located less that a block from the Saint Mary's Catholic Church. Both churches have nicknames and they are the "Irish Church" and the "German Church". I took a look at both churches and found them to be very similar in how they are constructed. But I only attend mass at the German Church (Saint Mary's Catholic Church). The Church is still well known as it old nickname and that people still recognize it as the oldest standing church in St. Mary's. The church does not look the same as it did when it was o
I found that their nature of baptism is to get baptized at a very young age. The complete baptisms process at Stint Mar's Church is by actually dunking the baby in what the parish calls the fountain of life that is located on the left side of the church. The Saint Mary's church is a denomination church meaning you have to belong. There are two other churches in the city that is denomination and there is one that is nondenominational. It was the first church so it did not stem from any other church. The church emphases the baptism of the holy sprit. That they can go through confirmation when the child is old enough to make a decision on there chosen faith. The church does not believe in born again. They use to speak Latin but are not to because they want everyone in the parish to be able to participate. The pope is the one that said that the parishes should include everyone and not use the forgotten tongue. The pews are the next major things that I noticed. They were made of the same wood as every thing else, oak! They were in sections and were in straight lines from the altar to the back of the church. The pews were hard wood and not the nice things to set on. Behind each pew was a knelling attachment that you folded out to kneel on. I thought that was one of the best ideas someone has ever come up with. The seats or pews in my opinion need to be lower to get a better view of what is happening on the altar. The exterior of the church is rough, gray stone and modern day cement. The front of the church has cavities that have statues of Mary, Joseph and other saints and decibels. The church has three cross one on the top of ever cone on the roof. There are huge pain glass windows that cover the church on all sides with vibrant colors. When you walk into the church you pass through one of three heavy oak doors. Once through one of these doors you enter a small vestibule. This small area lets you choose where you want to sit in the church. There are four heavy oak doors two leads to the main floor and to leads to the balcony. These four oak doors are made the same as the exterior doors but the middle of these doors contains a pain glass window. The glass is very nicely etched around the edges. Open the doors you have entered the main area of the church. This is the main part of the church. In the middle of the room there are large pillars to hold up and give support to the structure of the building. These pillars are a cream color up to about ten feet up where there is some decorative molding and delicately painted with a gleaming gold paint. riginally built back in 1852. The basic structure of the church is still there but many things have been added. Their bulletin has a little image on the front of what the church looks like. Within the past ten years, over a million dollars has bent spent on the renovation of the church. The ceiling is painted an off white, the same as the walls. In the center of the ceiling there is a huge painting that is the stairway to heaven. I found out that the pain
