Clearing The Smoke Between Cigarettes and Marijuana

One common aspect of our society is smoking. Whether it's marijuana (weed, pot, grass, ganja) or tobacco, smoking is seen in undoubtedly every city and town in the United States. But why do people smoke, and is there a difference between smoking tobacco and illegally smoking marijuana? Yes there is, but similarities also run between the two.

Before you smoke it is important to realize the dangers involved while puffing away at your preferred substance. Even though they are legal, cigarettes are more dangerous to one's health compared to marijuana. Over 390,000 people die each year from the effects of smoking tobacco, and smoking also doubles the risk of a heart attack. Evidently, cancer is the main cause of death from smoking cigarettes.

On the other hand, the natural growing plant marijuana has some dangers of its own. Statistics show that the calculated annual death toll for this illegal substance is zero. Marijuana may not be deadly, but it has the tendency to increase your heart rate. After it is smoked or eaten it may lead to bloodshot eyes, a dry mouth, or an increase in hunger. Studies show that marijuana severely disrupts the short- term memory, increases imagination, and inner thought. One main concern is the lazines

The pleasure of smoking can be seen in the eyes of every person that puffs a cigarette, cigar, joint (marijuana cigarette), or pipe. Whatever the reasons, smoking is an activity that is integrated into each smoker's personality that both inhibits and expands his social and personal lifestyle. For instance, cigarette smokers are restricted to separate areas of almost every public area, and many other places are simply non-smoking. Cigarette smokers receive immediate stereotype from peers, family members, and community members. Smoking tobacco implies that a person is unhealthy and leaves others with a negative idea of his or her persona. Smoking tobacco also leads people to believe that the user may smoke illegal drugs or have a drinking problem.

Whether its dangerous or not, smoking will always be a part of society. Many people disregard the apparent dangers of smoking because of the enjoyment or health benefits that they receive from smoking things such as a fine, Cuban cigar or a pipe of marijuana to ease the pain of chemotherapy. After all believe it or not, non-smokers die everyday. However, it is important not to smoke in excess. Smoking is not a serious health risk until it becomes a habit of everyday use.

In conclusion it is important to remember that anything done in excess is probably harmful to one's health, and that whether you smoke or not it is important to realize that there are many dangerous things in today's world, but smoking isn't one of them. If half of the energy that is spent in the war on drugs and anti-tobacco campaigns was put toward world peace, famine, or education then maybe our country would become a true symbol of the excellence of humanity. After all, it is the smoker's choice to light a cigarette or smoke a joint. Does smoking really interrupt the rights of others, or are the rights of smokers interrupted by others?
