Cloning

How would you like to create your child by looking through a catalog? Just think, no worries of mental problems, the right color eyes, or even the right color hair. To some people, this is exactly what they are looking for, but for others, this is playing with God's "Master Plan". Creating a child exactly like you want them it part of the process of cloning. Cloning is the duplication of an organism through scientific means (http://www.afgen.com/cloning.html). People in opposition of cloning have many reasons to back up their opinion. However, most of the arguments are religious and ethical rather than scientific. The most commonly cited ethical and moral arguments against human cloning seem to come from religious perspectives. Politicians and scientists with religious understanding can even make these religious arguments. Many religions teach their followers, for example, that human life is unique and special and should be created, determined and controlled only by their deities. These religions also believe in the existence of the human soul. Many Christians are concerned about whether or not it is possible to clone the human soul along with the human. If this is so, what will this mean

There are many other oppositions or arguments about cloning. For example, the possibility of physical harm to the embryo. Opponents and supporters agree that the current time and technology is not safe enough to use on humans. Some fear that clones will have an accelerated aging process since the cell used in the cloning procedure will have been "exposed to a lifetime." Another argument is that there is a chance of psychological harms to the child that is cloned. Here opponents argue that children suffer a diminished sense of individuality and personal autonomy (http://atheism.about.com/religion/atheism/msubins_clone_humans.htm). A cloned child may feel that their future is constrained by the life path of their gene donor. Other possible outcomes of human cloning are degration of the quality of parenting and family life, and people starting to view children as objects.

When society tries to decide whether or not cloning should be legal, there are several questions that each person should ask. What are the needs and goals that this technology might serve? Is this technology the only means for addressing these goals and needs? What members of which communities have these goals and needs? Of these groups in need, who will have access to the technology and its products; for example, will it
