Communication

"Quotidian misunderstanding between men and women..." (Ginia Bellafante) is an adjective used to explain how the communication between men and women transpire. However, quotidian which means daily, is but one of the many ways we can describe the process of two gender communication. After viewing the video, "Women and Men's Communication at Work" and reading the Ginia Bellafonte article, "Are Women Too Nice At The Office", I would have to agree that women, although they may not want to be, are to nice at the office.

However, this question should be left alone for the women themselves to answer. A good example of an example of a women showing her "nice" side from the 20/20 video was how the male subordinate who did not complete a job when asked, was approached by the female boss. When approaching the male subordinate she puts herself into a one down approach and seems to empathize with her male subordinate. She apologizes and blames herself for maybe not explaining herself well enough to him. He in turn uses what she is giving him and diverts and laughs the lack of competence off. There both go away from the situation feeling better because he only got a slap on the hand and she was ab

Males often take on a hierarchical approach and learn how to teach boys to dominate. (Ginia Bellafante) It is considered a challenge and at many times, males turn to ridicule and put-downs. Women structure their relationships and communications styles around their best friends and sharing secrets and turn taking. (Ginia Bellafante) This style that little girls use often leads to building a reputation and rapport. However, the downside to this style of communication often leaves women at a disadvantage and therefore many men sense her position is weak and indecisive. (Ginia Bellafante)

Once the genders "grow up" and take on various roles in society the socialization of communication becomes evident. In a business work setting, if a man does not act with confidence and somewhat arrogant, he will not be respected and liked. (20/20 Video) He may even be considered a wimp. This most often can be seen when a women is
