Comparative View of Advertising

View of An Advertisement in Relation

To Its Source and To Advertising in General

Advertising is a means of making one's product known to the public. It is a way to promote goods and services to consumers. It notifies the consumer of the latest products on the market. It refreshes customers' minds of old products and unveils information on new products. For companies, advertising is the main resource for producing sales. It promotes the public's attention. It emphasizes attractive qualities to enhance the consumer's desires, hopefully ending in a purchase. It helps bring consumers to the realization of their need, or maybe just want, for the product. Advertising, however, can be manipulative because it only highlights desirable qualities. Companies make their product seem more appealing by concurrently applying eye-catching themes. Whether it is humor, wealth, sex, escaping, domination, basic sensations, or affiliation, companies always manage a way to make their product appealing to consumers. To help appeal to consumers, companies commonly use magazines as a source for their advertisements. For many years, magazines have been used as a source of entertainment. There is mass variety of magazines that appeal to man

On the album cover, he is standing with a white shirt and a platinum chain, again. This repetition helps to embed the image in the consumers' mind. Behind him stand two of his comrades with white shirts, which have the same effect. His name, Juvenile, is written in black across the cover with a white glow behind it. The background includes another picture of him holding a platinum chain also with a white glow around it. The background is also black with the pattern of a bright gold-like colored fence. All of these components help to protrude to the reader's sight, thereby adding to the vividness of the advertisement. The ad has a very bright and glowing effect to it. This vividness and brightness is an appeal of domination and prominence. Naturally, brightness comes from the sun, and it is related to the sun. As in nature, the sun is viewed as the pinnacle of dominion, prominence, and greatness. Therefore, the simulation of the effects of the sun, as with the vividness of the ad, replicates the results: domination and prominence.

The ad also brings about an appeal for rebellion. There are also two police cars behind Juvenile and his comrades in the album cover. This factor brings about another fantasy that is common among people. For some individuals who are renownly good people and who have never really committed any crimes, they tend to fantasize about what the other side is like. Some may want to go against the expectations that other people set for them. This ad provides that fantasy without people having to really cross over any major boundaries. Most teenagers also feel a need for rebellion. They tend to have a desire to rebel against any authority figure. This ad offers that fantasy. These factors appeal to the attraction and need for rebellion among many young consumers.

This advertisement attracts to the public because of association through the attraction of wealth, the attraction of domination and prominence, and the attraction of rebellion. Altogether, this ad for the album of hip-hop artist, Juvenile, provide the basic concept for many types of ads in "The Source" magazine. Through the display of jewelry in Juvenile's ad, the ad attracts to the desire of wealth among consumers. The consumer can be attracted to the clear and resplendent view that is shown by the ad. The consumer will also be at
