A detailed Summary of Cultural Geography: Cultural Landscape

Cultural landscape is the true definition of all of the terms to be defined in this paper. The definition of a term is not supposed to contain the same word being defined; however in this case, all five terms can be summed under the main definition of cultural landscape. Given this improper method of defining terms, cultural landscape will be defined appropriately first with the remaining terms being defined following (Rubenstein, 2002). The five terms are cultural region, cultural diffusion, cultural ecology, cultural integration, and cultural landscape.

As it applies to this paper, cultural landscape is the human geographers' term for perspective on the location of humans, their resources, significant geographic landmarks, socio-economic status, belief systems, and why they evolved to what they are today. There are many other factors that are a part of the definition of cultural landscape. The focus will be on the aforementioned terms.

The last term to be defined is cultural integration. Cultural integration is the close relationship of various elements of a cultural system. It is commonly known and widely accepted that there is truly no minimum unit of measurement to a culture. Therefore, when considering the definition of a culture, integration of the culture must be carefully examined to determine the collection. Regional integration is defined by culture and cultural ecology. Derived from the Latin word cultus, culture means, "to care for." To care for something can be interpreted in two ways. To care about is to worship, as in cult. Looking after someone or something is to take care of it. The mix and interaction of different traits creates new features, new innovations, and definitely new cultures. Everything that happens everyday is an example of integration, whether it be giving an opinion on a news article, the manner and tone spoken to a person, and even the body language used during communication. All will continually affect change in culture.
