The characterization of David Copperfield was very powerful throughout his lifetime. David orphaned as a child; abandoned by his stepfather Mr. Murdstone. He was always a kind and hearted kid. He never meant wrong; he was only growing up and learning well from bad. When David set eyes on Emily he was always touched by the love he had for her.
