How would you feel if you we lived by Hammurabi's code and you stole something and lost your hand therefore keeping you from ever doing that again. This is same principle as death penalty but just at a lower level. What if we the states we live in retain the right for the death penalty, where do they go next? To more strict measures on punishment like those enforced in Hammurabi's time. I thought this nation was developing nation striving to be the best in the world, I think we should be above the code of "an eye for an eye." This code I believe is an inhumane and an infantile way to run the justice system. Isn't the point of the penalty system to rehabilitate someone for their actions, but if you just go and kill that person nothing about rehabilitation is be accomplished. I believe they should limit a murderer's abilities while in prison. They should be put to work and live in more strict conditions. Remember the point of the penalty system is to rehabilitate, the
convict should regret having ever commited the crime. He or she should suffer and have to live with themselves with it on their mind.
The reason that influenced me to oppose the death penalty the most was the possibility of innocence with the accused. It was said that almost one hundred who were on death row were later proven innocent. Another plus for putting the convict to jail even if he or she is innocent is that the one accused can still see his family and talk with them, and the family will not have lost him because of the actions of another man. This time picture yourself on the Massachusetts legislature and you were pro-death penalty and made the death penalty law and it was passed, and later after it was passed your wife was accused for murdering another person, however she was actually innocent, and was found guilty. How would you feel about yourself? Would you wish you had never made that law? Would you wish you could at least visit your wife at prison and be able to talk to her. Scenarios just like this I'm sure happen every year and this is one thing that people need to think about before they become a supporter of death penalty.
the death penalty is one of the main reasons I oppose it. It just defies everything our nation stands for. W
