Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. These are great words to hear! They are all part of our Declaration of Independence. But, why was it written? The Declaration of Independence was written to declare the freedom of the thirteen colonies and to give the world an explanation of why they separated from Great Britain. In the 1700's Great Britain did not have a good form of government. The colonies believed that if they could separate from Great Britain that they could form their own government. That government would be one that would be better than Great Britain's and they succeeded! I agree with everything the colonies did and I am very grateful to them. As you can tell the Declaration of Independence is a very important document to the United States. It declares our independence from Great Britain and states the ideas of a good government. That would be better for the people than the government the King had. The colonies had a great idea. Just think of where we would be if the colonies had not gotten together and written this document. The United States would probably still be part of Great Britain and would still be run by a King. Thanks to the colonies, Americans are now free and have their rights protected more than they did under King George.
