Descartes

When I was a child I remember having a vivid imagination. One Sunday morning, when I was but a mere four years old, we learned about the devil at Sunday school. We were taught there was an evil being with incredible power that loved nothing more than for people to do wrong. He was a tyrant of the underworld and if the world was not saved and sanctified then he would possess their souls in hell for eternity. Well after being completely terrified my mother consoled my tears and explained there was such a thing, but with a righteous heart and devoted spirit that God would be the answer for any harm.

As I have matured and graced the threshold of adulthood I have continued to cling to this wisdom. Still, it puzzles me. Can such a creation be true? If so is there any justification for his being? I have came to the point where it does not bother my knowledge. Instead I have chosen to live as I see fit and what is considered just. Various applications of thought have rested on this since the beginning of time. Rene Descartes, a renowned scholar of philosophy, has also hypothesized such views. His meditations on philosophy have inquired minds for centuries and formed the base for deeper sights into the unknown.

The argument proposed by Descartes leaves a stale train of thought on the whole first meditation. Despite riding the fence on his depiction of senses and livelihood of his dreams he actually reaches a building point with his acknowledgement of God. Then he spins out into the biggest 360-degree, doughnut I have ever heard. From his daredevil tricks, one is left with basic mathematical logic, but more so with psychological discontent. Descartes balances the goodness of God with the deceitfulness of the Devil, in plain terms. However, he states he is uncertain to find out substantial differences. "I am like a prisoner who happens to enjoy the illusion of freedom in his dreams, begins to suspect that he is asleep, fears being awakened, and deliberately lets the enticing illusions slip by unchallenged" (118). This is absolutely absurd. He also exclaims of not walking in light rather darkness. How could he be in either if his cares are not in finding a resolution? Descartes expressed his point, but did not provide enough common sense. After all, this is a soul we are speaking of here correct. If that is not incentive for one's efforts then by all means what is left.

However, let us pause on this great mystery. What if we said the roles was reversed. There is an evil being which reigns over us with only a smattering of goodness where it is seen fit. The human race would be even colder than what the winds already permit. Darkness would take control of the lig
