There is a lot of moral issues that is apart of the world today. People tend to ask themselves whether this something is moral, or not moral, or any fair and right or unfair and wrong. One controversial question is; does divorce affect children and the answer is yes it does.

People are getting divorce at higher and higher rates. As a whole over one million children has experienced parental divorce each year. (Fagan and Rector page 1) Another alarming fact is "more than, half of all children born to married parents this year will experience the divorce of parents this year before they will reach the age their 18th birthday."(Fagan and Rector page 1) Not only are one million couples getting divorce but, the number is still rising.( Fagan and Rector page one) This figure is only true in the US.; but in Canada only 44 % of couples who are married will get a divorce (Dr. Ambret page 2). The drop of income after a divorce can drop the income of a family up to 50%, and if the family wasn't already poor they will may drop in income status. (Fagan and Rector page 1) 61% of the couples in which both the husband and wife are divorcing from a first marriage were children under the age of 18 years old (Arnold


Even though divorce has is an all around big problem to our society, many people have suggestions to solve this problem. There should be more effective marriage educational programs. Also the US can develop a divorce prevention program. "This should end the legal status of "no- fault" divorce for parents who have children under the age of 18." ( Fagan and Rector page 5) Also, the American society as a whole must teach important principles that marriage is the best and most effective way to raise healthy and happy children (Fagan and Rector page 4).

Children are likely to have psychological problems. In 1987 14% of children, of divorced parents, needed to seek psychological help. "Children living with formerly married mothers had a 50 % greater risk of having asthma in the preceding 12 months."(Rodriquez and Arnold page 3)Children tend to be more anxious and have problems adjusting to the experience. "Children of disrupted families showed an increased risk of accidents, injuries and poisoning, and elevated scores for health vulnerability in comparison to those living with both biological parents." (Rodriquez and Arnold page 3). Last but not least, "The predicated risk of injury was about 20% to 30% greater for children from disrupted marriages than other children."(Rodriquez and Arnold page 3)
