The English dramatist and poet William Shakespeare was the author of the most widely admired and influential body of literature by any individual in the history of Western civilization. However, perhaps he was only well known for many plays that represent romantic love. His treatment of love ranges from the humorous in the comedy to the sad and tragic in the melodramas tragedies of Romeo and Juliet or Othello and Desdemona. Although not many people heard about the Sonnets that Shakespeare wrote, however for those who have read the Sonnet would agree that Shakespeare was also passionate about the love between friends. The Sonnets described the devotion of a poet to a young man whose beauty and virtue he praises. It was because the Sonnets were written with such passionate intensity,

Sonnet 18 was, primarily, a love poem. It was a love poem, in the usual and very general sense. However, it does not imply that the author has consummated or even wishes to consummate the love he was expressing. The message of the first two lines was that the Friend has the physical attractiveness of a woman, but was spiritually superior. It was difficult to avoid the impression that Shakespeare was describing a situation in which his passion was physically attractive in the manner of a woman. During this time, it was obvious that Shakespeare was expressing his love his friend.
