'The Joy Luck Club'
A detailed Summary of 'The Joy Luck Club'
The Chinese respect and disciplin is much different then the American ways of society today. To contrast these two countries and lifestyles, examples from the book 'The Joy Luck Club' written by Amy Tan describes the Chinese society and my own experiences of living in America gives me the knowledge of the American society. The main overview of this topic will stress how much disciplin and respect the Chinese have compared to the average American. Many times elders in America say how things today are "not just the way it used to be." People don't respect others and they don't act appropriatly in the appropriate places. For example, teens arguing with adults, swearing at them and showing off nasty gestures was probably not tolorated during the time when these elders were growing up. Situations like this were probably handled differently during that time also. Today, kids need to have counseling and talk about their problems and frustrations. Forty-Fifty years ago the kids would be slapped up and set strait. The old way is the right way, but that has dissapeared. So things have changed. Not as much for the Chinese though. Why is it that we haven't heard about two kids killing fifteen students just f

Throughout the book 'The Joy Luck Club', characters would talk about how their ways of living is in there blood. Jeng Mei Woo, one of the main characters, decribed how when she finally landed in China after living in San Fransisco, she felt her true Chinese self. Who in America today even thinks about where they are standing? There are so many people who take for granted the freedom they are given and the apportunities they have enherited. Most characters were living in tradition of China rthey lived in tradition by the way they thought and how they believed in their ways strongly enough to have it feel to be right. Once again a question, How many people in America believe in the American tradition and want to live the right way? Americans today read that question and ask "what american tradition?". This is because there isn't one because it was lost when every one and there brother wanted to live differently and in there own way. They wanted to believe in something different so they can feel that they are living their own life. Now some people dress so attrotiously that you can't tell if they're hot or cold, young or old, or even man or woman. This is one example of abusing freedom.
The crime rates are much lower in China. Why is that? I am not the one with the answer but I don't think it is that hard to figure out. The penalties in China are much more strict and the rules are obayed more. Today in the American society, a kid can break in to someones home, get caught, and be back on the streets in 24 hours. First of all, this kid probably was never taught how wrong it is to persue the acts he commited. This kid was not taught the importance of other peoples values. This kid will also do the same thing again someday because he didn't experience the punishment that would ha
