Short stories are all similar
Jack London, Bernard Malamud, and Ernest Hemingway are very different people, lived in different eras, and lived different lives. However, they all have something in common. All three of these talented people are short-story writers. The three short stories that will be compared and contrasted in setting, characters, conflicts, and writing styles are "To Build a Fire" by Jack London, "The First Seven Years" by Bernard Malamud, and "Old Man at the Bridge" by Ernest Hemingway. These three stories are very similar in their characters, although written about different topics and by different authors. Each story hasno more then three characters. Although the three stories are different, their characters all endure very simple and realistic conflicts. Their personalities are also very simple. Hemingway does not deal with discrptions in his story, however, he build up a very mysterious plot. oolish man, however his foolishness is different. The nameless character is foolish for being voluntarily ignorant. Feld, however, is naturally ignorant. London describes his nameless character as "quick and alert but lacking imagination" However, all London lets us know is that the character has red hair, a beard, a mustache, and wore mittens and moccasins. There are no other physical traits described. Feld on the other hand is described as old and physically rusted. This character directly contrasts mentally but is alike with one of the main characters in "Old Man at the Bridge". The old man's character remains nameless as well. He is an old man who seems to have lost his mind, sanity, and energy. However is very imaginative. He believes that hi
