Chief Seattle 2
The city of Seattle is known for it's many booming businesses, where innovation is produced. But what was Seattle like before the new settlers of eager entrepreneurs, before all the commerce and businesses? How did Seattle even get its name? Seattle was founded by members of the Denny party, who arrived at Alki Beach on November 13, 1851 and then, relocated to the eastern shore of Elliott Bay on April 1852. The city was born when the ship, Exact stopped at Alki Beach in what is today West Seattle. It carried Arthur A. Denny and a few of the pioneers that he and his father had led from the Midwest over the Oregon Trail to Portland and as they landed ashore they would disturb all of the local tribes way of life forever. As he matured, his own people started to recognize Seattle as a capable leader. His parents' ancestry meant that he was related and recognized on both sides of Elliott Bay and up the Duwamish River. He was of noble birth according to the Suquamish, which was a necessity for major leadership in the society of Puget Sound Salish culture. Seattle impressed his elders with his intelligence and courage. One instance of this was that he became a chief because of his leadership during an attack by warriors coming down the White River, planning to attack the Suquamish.
