Phoenicians 2
A detailed Summary of Phoenicians 2
The sea lords of antiquity, the Phoenicians, were one of the most influential group of people of all time. They were, however, a lot different than a lot of other civilizations. The biggest thing that they are known for is their seamanship. They were know to have conquered the sea, and as one person put it "The sea called and the Phoenicians answered." They mastered the art of ship making, and used their skills to develop an advanced over-sea trading system with different civilizations all over the Mediterranean.
A lot of evidence points in favor of the Phoenicians being a true civilization, but there is a lot that puts some doubt in one's mind. It takes a lot of research and one has to look deep into the past of the Phoenicians to see what kind of people they were. One thing that is questionable is how they became a people. They had a strong connection with a lot of other civilizations around the Mediterranean, and were able to develop different things out of all the resources they had available to them. They were very good with bronze, and other metals, and very good woodworkers, as the area where Phoenicia is was at one time know for the large and abundant trees that grew there.
One major problem that archeologists encounter when studying the Phoenicians are the very few written records of their lifestyle. Most of the information that we have today, is information gathered through other cultures, mainly enemies of the Phoenicians. This of course has some effect on the perspective that we have to today about this civilization. The Phoenicians did, however, keep a lot of
