Plato's believes that the body is nothing but constant distraction to the soul. The five senses, along with pleasure and pain are among the most distracting feature of the body because with them, one cannot search for reality. Plato viewed death as the one release from the body in which the soul is free to search with reality, since it has no contact or association with the body. Plato thinks of pleasure and pain, as something one cannot have without the other, "A man cannot have both at the same time. Yet if he pursues and catches one, he is bound to catch the other."
