Andrew Carnegie strongly opposed the United States expansion into the Philippines. He was the Vice President and generous financial supporter of the Anti-Imperialist League from its formation in 1898 until his death. He expressed his opinions on the issue of Filipino independence in his address "The Opportunity of the United States". In this speech he gives many reasons why the war in the Philippines should be stopped, and his thoughts on the British colonial experience in India, as well as his opinion on the American idea of self-government.
