First of all, the progressive "movement" was NOT actaull a unified movement. It was a series of reforems taken by many different peole, organizations, governments, etc. over a significant period of time. The sources of progressive reform religious groups, muckrakers, and the Leftist political groups or socialists. The religious groups go form private charity to advocating public refor. Some examples were the YMCA and the YWCA. Muckrakers were investigative journalists who sought to anger the public into social action.
