The unnecessary Atomic Bomb
The sudden technological advances of the world have lead to the development of many horrifying weapons. Weapons of such destructive capability that if a global war broke out, it would indefinitely mean an end to the human race. The one weapon that is particularly destructive is the atomic bomb, developed during World War II. The American military were the first to use it; they deployed this bomb by air over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Even if you were fortunate to survive this frightening weapon, the radiation would affect you in some way. The Scientific Data Center for the Atomic Bomb Disaster at Nagasaki University say " The injuries inflicted by the atomic bomb resulted from the combined effect of blast, wind, heat rays (radiant heat) and radiation and surfaced in an extremely complex patterns of symptoms. The death toll within a distance of one kilometer from the hypocenter was 96.7% among people who suffered burns, 96.9% among the people who suffered other external injuries. These data show that the deaths occurring immediately after the atomic bombing were due not only to burns and external injuries but also to severe radiation-induced injuries" (Datactr 1).
ction from other nations. Yes it is important for Our Country to have protection incase of a war or a problem started with another nation, but nuclear devices are not the answer. Other nations have the same types of weapons, which means nuclear devices could be used against us. George Kennan an Atomic Scientist wrote "Nuclear weapons remains the most serious danger to mankind and the most serious insult to God."(qtd.-in Freeman 1). We have used atomic bombs to destroy other nations and we saw the consequences of this act. This act killed so many innocent people. David Krieger from the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation says, "It is highly immoral to base the security of a nation on the threat to murder of millions of people. We use Natural Resources in our everyday life for productive reasons. We know we need these resources. We also want more money for educational programs, health issues and of course money for the poor. Our government does not have this kind of money, but they have money for nuclear activity. The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation found out "Nuclear weapons have drained resources, including scientific resources, from other more productive uses. A recent study by the Brookings Institution found that the United States alone had spent more than $5.5 trillion on nuclear weapons programs since the beginning of the Nuclear Age. The United States continues to spend some $25-$35 billion annually on maintaining, testing, and developing its nuclear arsenal. All of these misspent resources represent lost opportunities for improving the health, education, and welfare of the people of the
