The temple was built between 447-438. Only the ruins is standing today because of the Turks in 1687 stored tons of gunpowder in the temple but accidentally was shot by a near by cannon. The rest of the remaining items were given to the British Ruler, Lord Elgin as gifts from the Turks. These collections are stored in the museum called the Elgin Marbles. The temple was built with the Doric columns, which are made directly on the floor, with twenty grooves called flutes.
