Three items from ancient Athens

23/8/2064 On the Acropolis of Athens, I discovered the Parthenon: one of the greatest Ancient buildings that have survived.

The temple was built between 447-438. Only the ruins is standing today because of the Turks in 1687 stored tons of gunpowder in the temple but accidentally was shot by a near by cannon. The rest of the remaining items were given to the British Ruler, Lord Elgin as gifts from the Turks. These collections are stored in the museum called the Elgin Marbles. The temple was built with the Doric columns, which are made directly on the floor, with twenty grooves called flutes. There are also friezes, metopes and pediment of Athenians at work and their Gods carved on the top of the temple. ("Architecture" 1995:540-543)

The Parthenon was a huge project for the ancient Greek architects. They built them dedicated especially to their gods because they have a lot of faith in them.

27/8/2064 The temple reveals much about the importance of the ancient Greek gods to the ancient Greeks.

The designs show the amount of skills they knew about architecture and texture. The building was built on the top of the mountain to house their Gods and Goddess to watch over them at all times. In the naps section, it hous

While I was excavating the ruins of the Parthenon, I also found a white chiton, which were the clothes worn by the ancient Greeks.

ed the statue of the god, in this case it was Athena, and the pronaos housed the impressive of the offerings made to her, and the opisthodomos housed the rest of the offerings. (Smith 1975:25-32)

The helmet reveals much about both the battles and the need for protection during the brutal wars between the city-states and other armies.

The design implies the need of tremendous amount of protection. The helmet is a design from around the 7th century BC and is worn by the heavily armoured soldiers called hoplites who also carry a spear up to seven metres, a sword which is around two meters, and round shield with one metres, a breast plate and leg-guards or shin pads only made out of bronze. These hoplites are in a highly organised group called sphinx which is a groups of hoplites in 10, 000 in groups of 5 thousands. (Malam 1998:16)

The Parthenon was found on the hilltop of the Athens's Acropolis. It was built on the hill because the ancient Greeks thought that they should be all under the eyes of their Gods and Goddess. The Chiton and the helmet might have been belonged to a married couple and have stored their clothing among other treasures.
