Symbols have been and continue to be an active part of many religions, including those characterized as Traditional Religions. However, the term symbol is not that easily defined. When someone makes reference to a symbol one is to think that they mean either an object or a drawing of some kind, but it gets more complicated than that. Take the case of the Bushman, these people have a dance that they perform, this dance is a description of a journey through the realm of mythological symbols. Now these mythological symbols can't be drawn or held in one's hand but they are portrayed in a very sacred dance. It is these symbols in this Bushman ritual that connect these people to their ancestors both spiritually and metaphysically. Words, too, can also be symbols and these words to some Traditional Religions can convey great power.

The Sioux Indians have a religion littered with symbols. Probably the most prominent symbolism in the Sioux religion is the color. The four main colors or true colors in the Sioux religion are red, white, black, and yellow. It is these four colors that give the Sioux Indians the four directions,

If not a Buddhist, the Four Noble Truths are a concept extremely hard to swallow. It seems almost impossible to be able to clear one's mind of all desires, and then obtain knowledge. In the west it is almost the complete opposite. Without desiring and wanting knowledge and insight we cannot obtain them. That is what makes the Buddhist idea of reality confusing. To us reality is what we are living right now, to the Buddhists we are living what they like to call Samsara, or an illusion. To them everything around us is not real, the car's we drive, the places we live, and even the people we love. Their idea of reality can only happen when one's Karma runs out and they finally become enlightened.

It is this recreation that brings the men in and out of reality, there the connection is found between the metaphysics of nature in Traditional Religions and symbols used in Traditional Religions.

The Meccans made several attempts at a successful war against Medina, but where always driven back. Mohammed entered Mecca and triumphantly took the city. He offered the people forgiveness, most of them accepted him as the Prophet of God. Now that Mohammed had control he destroyed the pagan idols in the Kaaba, and proclaimed it a mosque.
