The Treat of Versailles was what ended WWI. The treaty was harsh on the Germans and placed all blame for the start of WWI on Germany. It forced the Germans to give up a large percentage of its land and its population. The Germans were also forced to pay the cost of war. Germany had to pay five billion dollars immediately and two years later, they were billed thirty two billion dollars plus interest. Germany was left in ruins and devastated. The Germans were very easily swayed at the time because they were desperate for a leader; this lead to the rise of Hitler.
