USAs effort in vietnam

A detailed Summary of USAs effort in vietnam

In the warm spring of 1975, the end of a long war was approaching. For many years the jungles of southern Vietnam had been a battle zone. The United States of America had long since retired from this war. From the fall of Hue in mid March 1975, the American government had given up on the "conflict" in Vietnam. The troops and government had been on the defensive, or run, from March until the 30th of April in 1975. Also, the American Government had cut down the funding and support. Also, there was a slow withdrawal of troops from the Northern Territories that fanned the fire under the Tet Offensive. Because of these reasons and many more, It is obvious that America had already given up on the war.

In the early years, Vietnam was a series of skirmishes. The Vietnam War was never really a war. The congress of the United States never really declared war on the Vietcong. The Vietcong were the communist north of the country backed by Russia and China supposedly. The Vietnamese Republic, was the south part of Vietnam. Ever since the end of the Korean War, a mass of American troops had been slowly gathering in the Country created by America and France. The reason the country was created was because it was a "With a weak government

The hippie movement proved to be a staggering variable made to the expense of the Vietnam War. This is because they protested the war and destroyed soldiers morale. They took the governments attention away from fighting on other soil and focused it on the fight on American soil. Finally, they took all effort from the government, which caused the government to eventually breakdown and start to pull out of Vietnam.

The fight for Hue is waged on March 19th 1975. A communication comes through from the city. "Survival of independent southern Vietnam depends on a large increase on U.S. actions. There is no doubt that the lack of U.S. determination in Vietnam conflict will kill the nation that earlier efforts helped create", reads a cable sent the 19th of March. This only shows that America's decreasing interest is now not sufficient to keep the war in Vietnam alive.

All in all, the war on the home front gave a huge part of the decay of the events occurring in Vietnam at the time. The hippies turned people's heads away from the war, and away from the ideas that the war was for a just cause and people began to protest. Also, the government lost interest because now the popularity and money was gone. And finally the people lost interest; they were tired of the long conflict.

The American government found it to be non-profitable for the war to continue with the strategy that the generals were using. The establishment of the Church Amendment only verifies the fact that the American Government had not wanted the war to continue. Other than obvious efforts to gradually stop the war, America used other methods to direct attention elsewhere. For an example, television and newspaper events had now slowed down to almost a complete stop. Also, gradually the forces were being retreated from northern territories of the country. The staggering losses in such cities has Hue and Da Ning were almost to awful to be by mistake of America. For the first time in the war, the Vietnamese were killing more than the Americans killed. As the government slowly lost interest, the retreat went on, until on the last of April, a full day passed with not one American soldier in Vietnam.

They generals had made huge mistakes that cost them the North part of the country. Once that was established there was no stopping the Vietcong. They fought as the Americans ran. The generals now could not rally the troops and they had cost America a huge part of the war.

The generals slowly retreated back into the Saigon where they would put up one last fight. This was another grave mistake by the generals. The forests around Saigon would provide great cover for Guerrilla warfare that could have repelled the Vietcong until the French could arrive with more reinforcements and ammunition. At that point, Vietnam would not be lost and the war would swing back towards America. But, this is not what happened. The American forces retreated back into the city and lost.

The scene in Vietnam is now a complete horror show. People are killing in the streets. Another cable comes through from Kissenger requesting supplies from Congress. On April 3rd 1975, congress votes for continuing funds for the conflict in Vietnam. The congress votes no for the continued funds for the conflict in Vietnam. This was the final nail in the coffin. Kontam, Plieku, and Qua Duc are all abandoned and the forces return to the area outside of Saigon awaiting the final fight of the war.

With the Church Amendment came many consequences to the situation in Vietnam. Soldiers lost their aggression so did the politics and the people there. Also, the government and order of Saigon falls into a state of confusion. Looting, Murdering, and Suicide follow by mid-March 1975. The police have no weapons, the military has no strength, and the city has no money. Famine is now spreading through the streets and people are eating grass and other crude foods. The city's state is an encouragement to the northern
