Violence-WestHollywood
Violence is seen everywhere, as we all know. So it is hard to pick just one aspect of violence for a report. I have chosen bank shootings. I did this for a few different reasons. One would be because I'm pretty sure that my subject will not be chosen by anyone else. The other reasons are not very important but you have to admit you never hear about bank shootings any more. Bank shootings and robbery are not quite as mainstream as Hollywood depicts but they do occur somewhat frequently throughout the US. Many new criminals use other, more high-tech, methods for stealing money. Unlike the old west, you do not need to walk into a bank waving a gun to get a bag full of money. Many criminals use computers to alter transactions and deposit other people's money into their accounts. Some people opt for credit card fraud while others forge checks and money orders. Then there are the money counterfeiters who have become so advanced in their techniques the US government had to change how their money was made and how it looked. Another reason criminals have become more advanced is that they are able to hide their tracks much easier by staying behind some sort of barrier. Being unknown is one of the most important aspects of bei
Macko, Steve. "Deranged gunman kills three and wounds two." ENN News 12 March 1997: 6 West, J.S. "Police shoot, kill suspect in bank robbery near campus." Daily Princetonian 6 November 1998: 5. On March 22, 1999 in Naples Florida a bank robber was charged with murder after shooting two tellers and killing one of them (3). Police said the robber forced both tellers into a vault and loaded a waste basket full of money. He then shot both women. One woman, who was found dead on the scene, was shot six times in the chest. Along with the gunshot wounds it was later found that she had a broken jaw and missing teeth as a result of the robber beating her repeatedly with the butt of his weapon. The other teller was in critical condition following surgery. She had been shot in the arm and in the neck. "The two women were the only ones in the bank," police said. Maybe we are going to see a drastic reduction in bank shootings as time goes on. Experts credited a wide range of reasons why violent crime is diminishing. Aging of the 76 million baby boomers born between 1946 and 1962 puts them out of their crime-prone years. Reduction in crack-based violence, community policing and aggressive police action to remove guns from the streets, stiffer prison sentences, greater community involvement with juveniles and broader prevention efforts for kids at risk of being lured into lives of crime all play a vital role in eliminating violent crime (4). As our society is going from paper money to plastic and ones and zeros there will not be as much opportunity to rob a bank. These people might still be violent and they may even kill other people but if we are they might find other ways to get around their problems and maybe our national crime rate will continue to decrease. This is another example of a total lack of respect for human life. It seems these people do not value life at all, as they are able to kill other humans and even put themselves into the position to be killed. The same goes for the bank robber who was killed by police right next to Princeton in November of 98. A male wearing a black ski mask emerged from an elevator holding a revolver to a bank teller's head. Two Borough police officers armed wi
