WAR REVOLUTION AND SOCIETY IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
WAR REVOLUTION AND SOCIETY IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURYWHY ISRAEL WAS SO MUCH MORE SUCCESSFUL IN THE SIX DAY WAR THAN IN THE YOM KIPPUR OCTOBER WAR The Arab-Israeli conflict has always been over a land of two peoples. The Arabs that lived in that land call it Filastin and for the Jews, it is Israel. For Arabs it was a land whose soil they cultivated for generations. To the Jews, Israel had been the inspiration during centuries of dispersion and persecution. In 1948, with the proclamation of the state of Israel, Palestine disappeared from the map, however, the people remained and the conflict continues. The war of 1967, much like the war of 1948-9, proved decisive for Israel. The Six-Day War left Israel in control of East Jerusalem, the West Bank, the Sinai Desert, and the Golan Heights. As well, Israel had the support of the Western public opinion. These territories became later the reason for the next war. Instead of ensuring Israel with more security, since her cities and towns in these territories were far removed from any attack, it actually became a reason for Arab preparation for the next war. The Six-Day War in 1967 is considered to be more successful than the Yom Kippur War because the 1967 war was decisive.

Egypt and Syria planned on the element of surprise. This was used element by Israel and it made a big difference in the aftermath of the war and the strategy and logistics of the Israeli defense.
