Was World War II Preventable

It is undoubtedly among the most devastating occurrences in global history. While it came and went in a mere six years of our earth's existence, World War II is often referred to with the sadness and regret of an ongoing tragedy. More than 17 million members of the armed forces perished between 1939 and 1945, and nations that had taken centuries to establish were shattered in a matter of minutes. Confusion is yet another emotion surrounding the causes, factors, and possible impediment of the Second World War. Was it an avoidable conflict? Was it preventable? Various historians say yes. Naming World War I the war to end all wars, they deem this second disaster a mistake; a storm to be shadowed by the cloud of it predecessor. Passive counterattacks point out events that occurred in the interwar years - conflicts, tensions, and general unrest - that could be regarded as foreshadowing of the coming world war. Further examination, however, of incidents such as the signing of the Treaty of Versailles and the failure of the League of Nations, results in a single conclusion : World War II was an inevitable turn in human his


The Paris Peace Conference of 1919 was intended to establish global pacification after World War I. National powers gathered in France to determine methods by which peace could be both attained and maintained, as well as the new boundaries along which nations would be created or divided. Intentions were good and expectations were high as the 'Big Four' - France, Great Britain, Italy, and the USA - made their requests for protection from enemies; larger empires; more land; and collective security, respectively. The neglect and mistreatment of the Germans before and during the conference, however, proved to be the first ingredient in the recipe of causes that resulted in the Second World War. Upon arrival in taxi cabs, while their national neighbors were sent limousines, German representatives discovered the accidental loss of their luggage, and the discourteous way in which they were regarded by their counterparts. So set the tone for the Paris Peace Conference - resentment, hostility, and a deeply rooted desire for revenge.
