Why Europeons came to America

Lots of different nationalities for lots of different reasons decided to venture to America. Most like Christopher Columbus who came to America in 1492 sponsored by Spain, was looking for a passage to Asia. Others were encouraged by Columbus' discoveries and hired themselves out, those were called conquistadors. There were 5 different types of colonies established; Joint-Stock company-owned by stock holders, Corporate-stock holders moved to America, Trusteeship-owned by board of people, and Royal - where king gave colony to a person or group of persons. The first permanent settlement was Jamestown in 1607, which was started by a Joint-Stock company. They had hoped to find gold and silver and were also looking for a passage to Asia. What they found instead was that where they were was really bad land and had too many mosquitoes and people ended up with many fevers and illnesses. The owners ended up losing money and was eventually taken over by the king and made into a royal colony in 1624. Another colony established early on was Maryland in 1632. M
