Why exactly did the revolution occur in France
Why exactly did the revolution occur in France? Why exactly did the revolution occur in France? There are basically three main steps of causes that lead up to the start of the French Revolution. One being background or long standing causes, the other being intermediate causes, the third being the immediate causes. The following paragraphs will explore the facts on the French Revolution, if it could be avoided or not, and also my opinion on the matter. Background causes are mainly the root of the final decision. It's what people don't realize is the cause, but if they could have avoided that certain detail they would have prevented the whole disaster. At the beginning, France was under the rule of an absolute monarchy (Louis XVI), and in order to obtain a structured nation the ruler must be strong and stable. They must be able to face even the hardest hardship. Louis XVI had neither of those traits. Also, the population of France was divided into three estates, two of which had privileges, which didn't allow much room for the unprivileged estate to speak, if any at all. That itself caused great conflict. Taxation of only the third estate was biased and also led to fierce controversy. The monarchy also didn't rea
Although intermediate causes were not the root of the French Revolution, they added on top of the problems already beginning to surface. France was in tremendous debt by this time. Louis XVI only added to the problem by not taxing everybody. This was where his finance minister, Robert Turgot stepped in and told Louis XVI that if he would not tax the nobles only more problems would follow. Louis XVI did not like this idea so he disposed of Turgot and brought in Necker who would disagree with Turgot and not tax the nobles. This only lead to more problems, which would increase the public debt each year. The people did not like this. Not only would that increase the debt, but also the expense for sending troops in to aid Washington's army was outrageous. I believe that if Louis XVI was not so naive he would have been able to create a stable and enjoyable nation to live in. Instead he just irritates the people by spending outrageous amounts of money on things that were not needed. He didn't stop to think that the third estate might have excellent views on how to improve the country. It all happened for a reason that would happen in the end, for the good. lize that they where, in fact, mistreated the third estate, for they had many of the great thinkers amongst the
