Wicca The Craft of Salem
"We are not evil. We don't harm or seduce. We are not dangerous. We are ordinary people like you. We have families, jobs, hopes, and dreams. We are not a cult. This religion is not a joke. We are not what you think we are from looking at the TV. We are real. We laugh, we cry. We are serious. We have a sense of humor. You don't have to be afraid of us. We don't want to convert you. And please don't try to convert us. Just give us the same right we give you - to live in peace. We are much more similar to you than you think."These words, spoken by a true witch, are replies to many stereotypes made by people all over the world about witchcraft, or Wicca, the true word for the craft of witches. The history of this mystic, pagan, religion has been tainted by historians thought the years in books filled with prejudice and fear. It is hard to uncover the truth but, as more and more brave souls step forward and proudly proclaim themselves witches, or Wiccans, we are able to learn more and more about our true ancestry. Chalice/Cup/Goblet Sacred to the Goddess. Element of Water. It is used to hold the wine for wine blessing and cakes and ale. 1) Wiccan; a follower of a reconstruction of an ancient religion of the Celts, who is prohibited from harming others. Earth was a constant point of reference in their day-to-day existence. Because the world of our ancestors was a magical place filled with the spirits of plants and animals, and because their experience had shown them that cooperation was more efficient than working alone, it was only natural that a bond of cooperation with nature would be sought by them. Thus was born the world's oldest religion: Witchcraft. During the following centuries this religion developed naturally and easily to fit the needs of the People. As closer bonds were developed with nature, rituals became more complex and the ability to accurately communicate with nature spirits was designated to The Wicca - which means "the wise ones". These men and women held the secrets for the community, sharing wisdom and power and leading the rituals during the Sabbats - the holy days that mark the turning of the wheel of the year. So as you see the Witchcraft used in Salem was not Satan-worshipping but merely a religion of the Earth and of nature. Almost all of the twenty-four people hung and one hundred-nine people falsely accused of witchcraft were not witches, but innocent people who witnessed some strange coincidence that other "god fearing" people thought was the devil infesting their town.
