World War II can arguably be called the most devastating war in human history considering the number of lives lost and the amount of materials and architecture destroyed. During the years of 1939 to 1945, the majority of the world's countries felt an overwhelming blow due to the war, but some positive aspects developed from it, such as technological and industrial advances, like aircraft design. Also many military advances were made, such as the atomic bomb and the first use of the long-range rocket. Looking back on the history of the war itself, it has become a historical treasure and the events that took place during this time will be forever remembered in story and in archive.

The most obvious and clear reason for the cause of World War II is the problems left unsolved by it's predecessor, World War I. First, three of the more powerful countries were left disappointed with outcome of WWI. Germany was unsatisfied with the war debts of $33 billion and territorial losses assigned to them by the treaty of Versailles. On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland and World War II began. Shortly after Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the Neutrality Law of the United States stating that they would not produce supplies or troops in a war involving foreign affairs. On September 3, 1939 Great Britain and France declared war on Germany in response to the Polish invasion starting what the press would later call "the phony war." It was called this because even though these countries declared help for Poland, they stood by and avoided fighting while Poland collapsed.

World War II would go on to destroy more lives and property, kill more men and women, and have more negative consequences than any other war in history. World War II is only one example of a war that was sparked from a web of alliances and betrayal.
