A detailed Summary of Ireland 2


Ireland withdrew from British Commonwealth in 1948, and joined the European Community in 1973. It has been working to unify the rest of Ireland in a peaceful way. With Britain it has fought against terrorist groups. In 1998 a settlement for Northern Ireland was approved; it has yet to been implemented.

Ireland is located west of Great Britain in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is mostly level, but does have rolling plains with rugged hills and low mountains surrounding them. The natural resources are zinc, lead, natural gas, barite, c
