Ironic And Romantic Readers In Hamlet

Ironic And Romantic Readers In Hamlet

The Tragedy of Hamlet by William Shakespeare has been written centuries ago. It is one of his greatest plays. During that long time since Shakespeare wrote Hamlet it has been changed many times. That means that now it's impossible to read original version of Hamlet so it's difficult to tell what was Shakespeare's intent of his book. But if this would be his original version I would say that he left this book open for readers mind to decide which reader they are, and if you are whatever reader, still you can learn a lot from this book. Now there are several different versions of Hamlet such as First Quarto, Second Quarto.

We were reading The Folger Library Shakespeare's Hamlet edited by Luis B. Wright and Virginia A. LaMar. The book gives all useful notes on facing left hand pages and notes are keyed exactly to the text by line number, which is helping a lot while reading.

No matter which version of this book you are reading, your interpretation of the book will be most likely ironic or romantic. Or there is another possibility, that you will be "mixed" reader. It is reader who feels like ironic reader in some parts of book and like romantic reader in other parts. Many readers can find them

They don't think that Hamlet was committing good revenge at all. Ironic readers in general think that Hamlet is too weak, or he is not able to revenge his father, as he should.

selves as "mixed" readers, because there are a lot of acts where you have to consider your feelings about book.

Later when Hamlet had his prove that Claudius was guilty, I think all readers were waiting for the revenge by Hamlet. But hamlet started to act weird. The scene in Chapel, where Hamlet had chance to kill Claudius and he failed made first suggestions that I'm not that romantic reader any more. Hamlet didn't' kill him because he thought that he is confessing himself and that he wouldn't be suffering after his death if he kills him there. But actually Claudius almost admitted his guilt on his brother death in the Chapel. At that point I became more ironic about Hamlet but I still thought that he is going to revenge his father soon.

Romantic readers are in general readers who like Hamlet as a person. They feel hi
