Opening Argument

Sam Rose stands trial for her actions. Three counts : 1: Posing or adulterating a drink 2: Assault with a deadly weapon or by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and 3: Drug possession.

The act of poisoning is a covert act, a strike from the darkness. A person who would commit these acts is not a strong, powerful, person. She would be the type of person who would avoid the gaze of her peers, sit in the corner at social events, and not fit in with the most popular of her peers all the while longing to be a part of the community around her. This, your honor, is Sam Rose a person in conflict.

The result of that conflict? The defendent developed a deep seeded and unfocused anger. You will hear that Sam was an introvert. She would sand in the corner at dances, and she never went to the regular haunts. She even found a job in the schools' registrars office where she didn't have to interact with her peers. Yet Sam did not want to remain this isolated. And when an opportunity presented itself to join Sigma Zeta Zeta Pie , she leapt


Devon felt obligated to tell Sam the false information. And when presented with it the defendant panicked and all of the sudden all that unfocused anger that had been building within her became focused on Corey and Rene. She confronted Corey about Devon's unwarranted theory saying, "You'd better watch out because that could put you out of commission for a long time."Yet when Corey didn't back down to the defendants verbal barrage, Sam reverted to her old, isolated, ways.Out of fear of rejection and resentment of Corey and Rene, the defendant decided that poisoning would be the best form of recourse.But how to get the pills? A family member with a past drug addition? A family friend? Someone with past drug experience. Thi Nguyen was just such a person. And when combine with shady exchanges and contrived explanations, recognition of Thi's role screams for attention. Thi provided the means that the defendant used to commit this crime, the Rohypnol.
