Self-Awareness

A detailed Summary of Self-Awareness

The Keirsey Temperament Sorter determines a person's dominant personality type based on the individual's answers on a standardized questionnaire. The result of this test is a four letter abbreviation of the test taker's dominant personality type. My personal results to this test indicates that I am an "ESFJ" personality type. Each of these letters indicate either one of two opposing personality traits which best describe the test taker. For example, the first letter can either be an E or an I; the individual is either an extrovert (preferring to be with others) or an introvert (preferring solitude). The second letter, either an N or S, stands for intuition or sensation: the test taker is either more innovative or more practical. The third letter is either a T (thinking) or F (feeling), owing to the individual's tendency to make choices based on impersonal or personal reasons, respectively. The final letter, a J (judging) or P (perceiving), indicates whether the person either has a need to settle things or whether he likes to keep all his options open. Thus, the test has determined that I am an Extrovert Sensation Feeling Judging personality type. An accompanying profile of this personality type is included in with the re

The personality profile of an ESFJ begins by stating that ESFJs are "the most sociable of all types." In general, I believe that I am extremely sociable in most occasions. Yet what I see as the strongest correlation between the profile and my personality begins on the second paragraph and continues in depth throughout the profile: ESFJs are described as being "great nurturers of established institutions such as the home, the school, the church, and civic groups." I pride myself in always being respectful to my family, particularly my parents. Furthermore, I am a strong believer in higher education (i.e. college) and I have been highly involved in group activities such as clubs and organized sports. However, the profile goes on to describe personality traits which I do not believe describe me well, but do describe what others think of me. For example, the profile states that the I may perhaps be "conscious of appearances and take the [o]pinions of others regarding social standards very seriously." I admit to being conscious of my appearance, yet I would like to believe that I hold a higher regard of my own opinions, regardless of the social standard. Similarly, the profile states that I may "often depend on higher authority as the source of opinions and attitudes." I agree that I will look toward "higher authority" for approval, but not as a source of opinions and attitudes. I believe that others, however, confer that I am a follower more than a leader in these respects. Also contained in this profil
