was designed because all the 5 characters that died when the bridge collapsed were linked in so

The novel tells the story of 5 characters (Marquesa de Montemayor, Pepita, Esteban, Uncle Pio,

and Don Jamie who are linked together in different ways. The characters are all linked together in

the novel beccause they have all lost a dearly loved one. Marquesa loses her daughter Clara, who

moves to Spain to escape her mother's overwhelming love. Pepita loses her parents, who

abandoned her and leave her to grow up as an orphan. Esteban loses his twin brother Manuel who

dies due to an infection. Manuel mean't everyt


Camila Perichole who had contracted small pox and rejects both the love of Uncle Pio and her son
