Holden Caulfield is thrown out of Pency Prep and forced either to go home or to fend for

himself in the adult world. Holden narrates J.D. Salinger's The Catcher In The Rye from

first-person point of view. He struggles internally with the death of his brother. Also, he

struggles externally while trying to find his place in the world. The story begins around Christmas

at Pency Prep High School in Agerstown, Pennsylvania. It was a Saturday afternoon, and Holden
