The Web of The Life

All living things are part of a complex network of interactions called The Web of Life.

Organisms are connected to each other in the web of life by their need for energy to live and reproduce. Nonliving things, such as temperature, sunlight, and rainfall, also affect the growth of plants and animals. The study of the living and nonliving parts of the environment and how they affect organisms is called ecology. Scientists who study ecology are called ecologists. Ecology is only one aspect of biology.

Microorganisms - organisms too small to be seen with the unaided eye, such as bacteria - began to break down the uneaten portions, causing them to decay. Flies laid eggs on the remains, and the eggs hatched into wormlike maggots that fed on the flesh.

Evidence cannot prove a hypothesis, however, because it is always possible that new evidence may provide a better explanation.

Because animals are consumers and cannot do this, they depend, directly or indirectly, on plants as their source of energy and matter. Humans also rely on plants or food. Humans, however, have a greater effect on the biosphere than other organisms because their activities often result in permanent changes in the environment. Using the techniques of observation, hypothesis formation, and experimentation, we a
