England after World War II and America's rise to powerWorld War II to England not only in the death and destruction, but also the decline of it being a world superpower precepanting the climb of the U.S. as a world superpower. Not only did the U.S. become a world power because of World War II, but also England reinvents itself in order to adapt to the New World order. As the war with the Axis powers came to an end England had to decide what to do with her colonies. In the process of the war she let some of her colonies go because she had no use for them and would cost her more to keep them then to let her go. Yet she still held on to many of them. Most of her colonies where in the Middle East, because of the resources that she could get out of there and of the strategic vantage point of view from the military stand point. England was relentlessly stubborn to give other colonies up for she needed them to keep England afloat after all of the expenses that she put into the war. The people were wary to elect Churchill again after the unemployment, stagnation, and defeatism in the thirties. The parliament was leaning very much toward social advances in the
Of course since there was a huge boom in the economy there is always that pendulum affect that will happen and this one hit real bad. The crash of 1929 hit everybody bad including a lot of international countries which included England who it hit bad as well. The depression lasted all the way up to about 1939 when we started to get out of it. About all of it was due to W.W.II. Because Britain was in need of metal, ships, armor, etc. We were the ones who supplied Britain with all of these goods. The structure of Britain's military has changed quite a bit from the earlier 1900's. They now just have a smaller but very much powerful military force to be reckoning with. Unlike the United Stated they did not build a lot of aircraft carriers. Instead they built smaller size ones which can't fir as many and do not give jets as much room to land as they are needed so Britain has built many fighter/bombers that can take off right off of the deck of the aircraft carrier. The newer types of planes are called "Harriers". As the British military advisors would say " The Americans may have a bigger stronger fleet; we have the advantage of taken off any where in the world at anytime". (486 Cash) England's new approach for her military was to try and fight in only those that was geo-politically important to her. They would cut back on all of the military services. Even the actual manpower lowered over fifty percent. England stated to invest in long rang missiles. She put a lot of manpower, money, and time in building as many long range deadly missiles. If there was going to be a war between the East and the West then they were going to get bombed to hell. The military advisor's believed that it they showed the East that they have many hi-tech missilery and nuclear power that they could detour the USR from thinking of starting a conflict with them or
