The Matrix
"Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real...what if you were unable to awaken from that dream? How would you know the difference from the dream world and the real world?" is one of many powerful quotes spouted out by the enigmatic Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) throughout The Matrix. This particular quote however, is important to the audience because it serves as a life preserver to those lost in the whirlpool of the movie's rather complex plot. It helps establish a common ground with each and every viewer alike in that everybody has had an experience where they couldn't tell if they were dreaming or not. The Matrix is filled with the stunning visual effects of a sci-fi masterpiece and at the same time has the killer fight scenes that are incorporated in a true action movie. With the combination of these two attributes and a compelling plot that threatens to suck in any viewer, The Matrix certainly receives my greatest regard as a movie to go and watch. In this apocalyptic sci-fi action flick, Keanu Reeves plays the part of a mild mannered young man that works as a systems programmer for a respectable software company by day. However by night, he is transformed into one of the most
All continues to go well as Neo begins to accept the "world that has been pulled over his eyes" until disaster strikes. Cypher (Joe Pantoliano), one of the group of human rebels decides to side with the agents in order that he may be "plugged" back into the matrix with and be given all that a human inside could have including riches and fame. powerful and feared hackers in the world, under the alias Neo. Throughout his life, Neo, has been troubled by the same question that has been burning in his mind: "What is the matrix?". He believes that the only way to find the answer is to consult an all-powerful hacker (the fore mentioned Morpheus) as to the answer to the question. Little did Neo know that Morpheus was seeking him as well? Morpheus sought Neo's help after it was prophesized that Neo would become the savior of the human race in the future. Upon contacting him, Morpheus explains to Neo that the matrix is simply an altered sense of reality that was created by a race of machines to blind us from the fact that we are really being used as a battery to power the machine race of the future. Morpheus along with his group of human rebels, including Neo's love interest Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), train Neo in a variety of fighting styles in order to fight against a group of computer program based agents who control the matrix in human form. During his training Neo and Morpheus engage in an adrenaline-pumping fight scene where the rules of gravity are completely ignored as Morpheus jumps nearly twenty feet in the air and nearly lands on Neo's head with a crushing blow from his knee, for a rather nice effect. Cypher's treachery results in the loss of Morpheus to the agents and the deaths
