Adem's Cross

A detailed Summary of Adem's Cross

The book I have read was Adem's Cross by Alice Mead. The setting of the book takes place in Kosovo in 1992. I found the story to be depressing at times and at others there is a sense of hope. Many events occurred in this book but only several stood out. On Adem's first day of school he and his fellow students were tear gassed by the Serb soldiers. The Serbs were planning to blow up a river and Fatmira, Adem's sister, and four girls from a college read poems off of five bridges that crossed the river, which lead to fatmira's death. The Serb soldiers that were not getting paid enough money and would beat up people for their money boxes, which had happened to Adem's father. The soldiers also took over Adem's grandmother's shop next to the house and used it as a home. Adem's escape was important because he would not have to live in constant fear of the Serbs. The night Adem obtained the carvings on his chest Adem was taken to the resistance alliance leaders. They took pictures of his chest to be broad cast on the news. A little while later a British journalist came to Adem's house to d
